Vol XII - EARTH HOUR 2009

On March 28th 2009 at 8:30pm the world got together to raise a voice of concern about global warming and climate change. Hundreds of millions of people in over 4000 cities and towns in 88 countries turned off their lights. EARTH HOUR is a global event created to symbolize that each one of us, working together, can make a positive impact on climate change

EARTH HOUR started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia with 2.2 million homes and businesses turning their lights off for one whole hour. Only a year later and this event had become a global sustainability movement with up to 100 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.

Professional BlackBook Network proudly supported this innitiative by posting banners in our website and promoting Earth Hour events locally in some cities. For next year we are planning to play a more active role encouraging all our members to participate.
"This is the perfect opportunity for individuals, governments, schools, businesses and communities around the world to unite for a common purpose, in response to a global issue that affect us all."- Carter S. Roberts, President and CEO WWF
